Porta de entrada da civilização portuguesa no Brasil, Salvador foi oficialmente declarada como cidade em 29 de março de 1549. Quase cinco décadas depois, a capital da Bahia conta com mais de 2,7 milhões de habitantes espalhados por 706,799 km². Em junho, a Arena Fonte Nova, estádio local, receberá os jogos Itália x Brasil, Nigéria x Uruguai e a disputa do terceiro lugar da Copa das Confederações.

Entry point to the Portuguese civilization into Brazil, Salvador became a city in 1549. Almost five decades later, the capital of Bahia has more than 2.7 million residents. This month, the Fonte Nova stadium will hold two matches in group stage – Italy vs. Brazil and Nigeria vs. Uruguay – and also the match that will decide the third place in the Confederations Cup.

Salvador is well known for the beautiful beaches, important touristic postcards and local culture. The Pelourinho, famous neighborhood in the city, has a nice architectonic complex with colonial baroque style. The city has a very traditional Carnival, that receive every year thousands of tourists that look for fun and entertainment.

Para receber as partidas da Copa do Mundo de 2014, a cidade de Salvador passa por várias reformas estruturais. As principais intervenções acontecem no Aeroporto Internacional Luís Eduardo Magalhães e no Terminal Marítimo de Salvador. O gasto geral do município, incluindo a Arena Fonte Nova, gira em torno de R$ 642 milhões. Somente o estádio foi responsável por R$ 591 milhões.

To have World Cup matches, Salvador is going through many structural reforms. The main changes are happening in the International Airport Luís Eduardo Magalhães and in the Salvador Harbor. Including the reform of the Fonte Nova Stadium, the estimated costs to have the event round about R$ 642 million. The football stadium reform only spent R$642 million.

De acordo com a Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Hotéis (ABIH), Salvador conta com 35 mil leitos de hospedagem. Incluindo o restante da Região Metropolitana, o número sobe para 50 mil. O planejamento é que até a Copa de 2014, mais de 70 mil leitos estejam à disposição dos turistas.

According to the Brazilian Hotels Association, Salvador has 35.000 hotel beds. Including the surrounding area, this number goes up to 50.000. Until the 2014 World Cup the plan is to get to 70.000 hotel beds to receive tourists.

Palco principal do futebol na Bahia, a Arena Fonte Nova foi inaugurada no dia 5 de abril de 2013. O primeiro jogo do estádio, que tem capacidade para 55 mil torcedores, aconteceu dois dias depois, entre Bahia e Vitória, pelo Campeonato Baiano. O Rubro-negro não teve nenhuma dificuldade sequer para fazer 5 a 1 sobre o seu maior rival.

The main stage in the state, the Fonte Nova Stadium was inaugurated in April. The opening match in the stadium that has 55.000 seats, happened between the two most popular teams: Bahia versus Vitória. Vitória had no problem in defeating its opponent, with a large score: 5 to 1.
